Don Griffith is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Grandpoint Capital, Inc., the parent company of Grandpoint Bank which was founded in 2010. Previously, from 1993 to 2007, he was the founder of two banks, Peninsula Bank and First Coastal Bank.
In 1989, Don founded D.M. Griffith & Co., an investment and advisory firm that he started with the financial backing of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. (KKR). KKR, with the assistance of the firm, invested $284 million in the Fleet Financial Group in 1991. The transaction was the cornerstone of the financing for the purchase of the Bank of New England from the FDIC, an acquisition D.M. Griffith & Co. helped develop and structure.
From 1979 to 1988, Don served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of First Interstate Bancorp, the 8th largest bank in the U.S. at that time. Previously, he worked at Bank of America for five years, serving as head of the Energy and Natural Resources Lending Group in Los Angeles. He began his banking career with Citibank in New York and Mexico City.
He formerly served on the Board of Trustees of Chadwick School as well as the Board of Directors of Wedbush, Inc., the parent holding company of Wedbush, Morgan Securities, Inc., and various start-up companies.
Don earned a master's degree in business administration from Harvard Business School, a master's degree in political science from the University of California, Berkeley, and a bachelor's degree in political science from Stanford University.
Prior to becoming a founding member of the Grandpoint executive team, Deborah Marsten served as Vice Chair of the Board and Chief Operating Officer of First Coastal Bancshares and First Coastal Bank from 1996 through the sale of the Bank to CVB Financial in 2007. During her tenure at First Coastal, she managed the acquisition and consolidation of three community banks, centralized operations support and risk control, and redesigned and expanded management reporting systems.
Deborah also co-founded DataTech Management, Inc., a data outsourcing firm, in 1998, and she was President and CEO of the company. DataTech served small to mid-sized financial institutions in California, Nevada, Arizona and Oregon with loan processing and documentation services. DataTech became part of Grandpoint Bank's Institutional Banking division in 2010.
Prior to joining First Coastal, Deborah ran her own consulting firm, Ourieff and Associates. Her consulting engagements for financial services companies addressed internal controls and risk management, liquidity crisis management, operating expense reduction, and data processing system conversions.
Deborah, whose financial services career began in 1970 at Wells Fargo Bank, previously held a variety of finance positions at community banks in the Los Angeles area.
Jack Feldman is the former President and Chief Executive Officer of First Commerce Bank, which merged with Grandpoint Bank in 2010. He served as Vice Chair of Grandpoint until his retirement in 2013. Mr. Feldman was affiliated with First Commerce since 1998. Previously, he was President and CEO of Bank of Los Angeles and American West Bank, located in Encino, Calif. Mr. Feldman is a former director of the Child Development Institute in Woodland Hills, and, prior to his retirement, was active in local civic affairs.
Carol La Caze has been a Partner in La Caze Development Company since 1975. The company holds and manages over two million square feet of commercial real estate properties in California and Nevada. Ms. La Caze is a member of the Little Sisters of the Poor Advisory Board and is a founding member of their Auxiliary. She serves on the Peninsula Committee for the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Hospice Foundation Advisory Board. Previously, she was a member of the board of directors of First Coastal Bank, which was acquired by CVB Financial Corp. in 2007. She earned a B.A. degree at the University of California, Los Angeles.
Chris Mitchell is Vice Chair of Marshall Stevens, a national valuation and advisory firm providing financial, real estate and capital asset valuation services. Chris has more than 35 years of experience advising investors, senior management and corporate boards of directors on financial reporting, risk management, valuation, governance, regulation, capital markets and mergers and acquisitions in the financial services and real estate industries. He previously served as a Senior Partner at Deloitte LLP.
He has served on the board of directors of the Special Value Opportunities Fund, LLC, First Chicago Bancorp, Stearns Holdings, Inc., and Reis, Inc. He is a director of National Association of Corporate Directors and an independent director of Western Asset Mortgage Capital Corporation and Parsons Corporation. In 2011 and 2012, Chris was named “One of the 100 most influential people in corporate governance” by Directorship magazine. He graduated with a B.S., summa cum laude, from the University of Alabama.
Dr. Naresh Saxena is a retired cardiovascular surgeon. He practiced at Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys, Calif., from 1976 until 2004. He also served on the board of the hospital from 1995 to 1999 and as Chief of Staff from 1995 until 1997. Dr. Saxena was a member of the board of directors of First Commerce Bank from 1995 until 2010. He joined the Grandpoint board when First Commerce merged with Grandpoint in late 2010.
Bruce Willison is a Professor of Management and former Dean (1999 to 2005) of the UCLA Anderson School of Management. He launched his academic career after 26 years in the banking industry, most recently serving as President and Chief Operating Officer of Home Savings of America and H.F. Ahmanson & Co. He was previously Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of First Interstate Bank of California. He has served on the Anderson School’s Board of Visitors since 1993. He also currently serves as a director of Health Net, Inc., SunAmerica’s annuity fund complex, and Move, Inc. He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from UCLA and an M.B.A. in finance from the University of Southern California.
Bertram Zweig was Counsel to Kaye Scholer LLP from 2001 until his retirement in 2012. Previously, he was a Partner in the Los Angeles office of Jones Day, where he was the Administrative Partner and Chairman of the Corporate Finance practice. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the State Bar of California. He is an Adjunct Professor at Pepperdine Law School, where he developed and taught courses in Venture Capital Finance for Emerging Hi-Tech Enterprises and Entrepreneurship. He serves on the board of directors of Wedbush, Inc., Zumbox, inc. and LegalSource LS, LLC. He earned an A.B. degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a J.D. degree from Columbia Law School.
